When you commission a custom piece with us, you are entrusting our artisans to bring your personal vision to life through exceptional craftsmanship and the finest materials. Please review this policy carefully, as commissioning a custom piece constitutes acceptance of all terms outlined herein.

Commissioning Your Custom Piece

Initial Consultation

Your custom journey begins when you submit our Custom Order Inquiry Form. During this consultation, we will discuss your vision, preferences, and any specific requirements for your bespoke piece. We welcome inspiration images, sketches, or detailed descriptions to help us fully understand and honor your vision.

Commission Approval

All custom commissions are subject to approval by Modern Mangal. We reserve the right to respectfully decline any request that falls outside our capabilities, does not align with our brand ethos, or is technically unfeasible.

Custom Commission Pricing

Investment in Bespoke Craftsmanship

Commissioned pieces represent a higher investment than our ready-to-wear collection due to the exceptional level of time, artistry, and expertise required to realize your unique vision. This includes personalized consultations, bespoke design development, sourcing of select materials, and the dedicated craftsmanship needed to create a piece that exists nowhere else in the world.

Design Amendments and Pricing

Please note that simplifying or removing elements from a design does not necessarily reduce the investment required. Any amendments made during the design process—whether additions, removals, or modifications—reflect the creative and administrative work involved, and these costs remain the responsibility of the client.

Design Process & Retainer Requirements

Commission Path Determination

Upon receiving your Custom Order Inquiry Form, our team will review your request and advise you on the appropriate commission path. We will notify you whether your request qualifies as a fully custom commission (requiring a non-refundable design retainer and our complete design process) or as a modification to an existing Modern Mangal design (following our streamlined process with full payment collected upfront). This determination is made at Modern Mangal's sole discretion based on the scope and complexity of your request.

Design Retainer (Fully Custom Commissions)

For fully custom commissions, a non-refundable design retainer is required to initiate the design process. The retainer amount will be determined based on the scope and complexity of your custom piece and communicated to you before we begin. This retainer covers your initial consultation, preliminary sketches, digital renderings, material research, and design development. The design retainer is non-refundable under any circumstances and will be applied toward your final investment when proceeding to production.

Streamlined Process for Minor Modifications

For pieces based on existing Modern Mangal designs requiring only minor modifications—such as personalized inscriptions, sizing adjustments, or subtle design refinements—we offer a streamlined process. In these cases, we collect the full quoted investment upfront and proceed directly to the technical design phase, allowing for an expedited timeline.

Design Proposal

For fully custom commissions, we will present an initial design mockup of your envisioned piece. This visual concept allows you to review and confirm that the overall aesthetic and design direction aligns with your vision. During this phase, refinements may be made to the design, and we offer up to two complimentary revisions to ensure the concept reflects your desires. Additional revisions are available at $75 per revision, payable before revised designs are created. Once you approve the design concept, we will provide final pricing based on the confirmed design specifications.

Final Payment

Upon approval of the initial design concept and acceptance of the final pricing, payment of the remaining balance is due in full. We will proceed to the technical design phase only after full payment has been received.

Technical Design Approval

Following receipt of full payment, we will create a technical design mockup detailing the precise specifications of your piece, including exact dimensions, materials, stone placements, and any engravings or personalization. This is your final opportunity to review every detail before production. Once the technical design is approved, no further modifications can be made, and production begins immediately.

Timeline

Design Development: 2-4 weeks from retainer receipt to design concept approval Technical Design: 1-2 weeks from full payment receipt to technical design approval Production: 3-4 weeks from technical design approval Total Timeline: Approximately 6-10 weeks from retainer to delivery

Extended Timelines and Market Considerations

Bespoke pieces often require extended timelines compared to ready-to-wear orders. During this period, raw material prices—particularly precious metals such as gold—may fluctuate due to market conditions. Should this occur, we may present an adjusted final price reflecting current market rates. This updated investment must be accepted before production proceeds. Clients who decline the adjusted pricing may cancel their commission, subject to forfeiture of all retainers and payments made.

Investment & Payment

Payment Structure

• Design Retainer: Due before design work begins (amount determined based on project scope)
• Final Payment: Remaining balance due in full after design concept approval and before technical design commences

Non-Refundable Payments

All payments are non-refundable once the technical design phase has commenced. Your commission represents a significant investment of materials and artisan time dedicated exclusively to your piece.

Post-Production Modifications

Once production is complete, modifications to the finished piece are not possible. Should you desire changes after your piece has been crafted, you will need to commission a new piece, requiring a new design retainer and full payment.

Quote Validity

All quoted investments are valid for 14 days from the date issued. After this period, quotes are subject to revision based on current material costs and availability.

Returns, Exchanges, and Modifications

When you commission a custom piece, you are requesting that Modern Mangal create a bespoke work of art designed and crafted exclusively for you. As such, all custom commissions are final sale. Under no circumstances will returns, exchanges, refunds, or post-production modifications be accepted.

By commissioning a custom piece, you acknowledge and accept that:

• Returns will not be accepted for any reason, including change of mind, fit preferences, or dissatisfaction with the completed piece
• Exchanges will not be offered for alternative pieces or store credit
• Refunds will not be issued once the technical design phase has commenced
• Modifications cannot be made to your piece after production is complete

Should you wish to make changes after your piece has been delivered, your sole option is to commission and invest in a new custom piece.

Cancellations

Cancellations prior to the technical design phase result in forfeiture of the design retainer (for fully custom commissions) or the full payment (for streamlined modification orders). Once the technical design phase commences, cancellations are not possible and all payments are forfeited.

Client-Caused Delays

Should delays occur due to client unresponsiveness, excessive revision requests, or failure to provide required information, Modern Mangal reserves the right to adjust pricing based on current material costs at the time the project resumes. Delays exceeding 60 days may result in cancellation of the commission with forfeiture of all retainers and payments.

Design Ownership & Intellectual Property

All custom designs created by Modern Mangal remain our intellectual property. We reserve the right to reproduce designs for other clients, feature designs in marketing materials, and create variations inspired by your piece. Custom designs are not exclusive unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.

Additional Terms

Communication

All design communications, approvals, and amendments must be confirmed in writing (email is acceptable). Verbal agreements are not binding.

Response Time

Clients are expected to respond to design proposals and approval requests within 7 business days. Failure to respond in a timely manner may result in project delays, price adjustments, or cancellation of the commission at Modern Mangal's discretion.

Accuracy of Information

Clients are responsible for providing accurate information, including sizing, spelling for engravings, and design specifications. Modern Mangal cannot be held responsible for errors resulting from incorrect information provided by the client.

Policy Modifications

Modern Mangal reserves the right to modify this policy at any time. The current policy applies to all commissions in progress.
