Custom Order Policy

Every custom piece is designed and made by hand for one person. This policy explains how our custom process works, when payment is due and what to expect at each stage. By placing a custom order, you agree to the terms below.
Our two custom services
Personalization. A piece based on one of our existing designs, changed to your request. This could be a new bead pattern, a different chain length, gold color or stone, or an engraving. No design deposit is required.
Design With Us. A new piece designed from your idea, your inspiration images or a family piece. This begins with a $500 design deposit, which is credited to the price of your piece.
After you submit your request, we'll recommend the service that fits within two business days. We may decline requests that fall outside what we can make to our standards.
All custom orders are final sale
Personalized pieces and Design With Us pieces are made only for you, so every custom order is final sale. Custom pieces can't be returned, exchanged, refunded or credited, including for a change of mind, style or fit. A finished piece can't be altered, and any change after it is made would be a new custom order.
Your custom piece is covered by our Warranty Policy for manufacturing defects.
How Personalization works
- Mockup and price. We send you a mockup of your piece and its price.
- Payment. Once you approve, the full price is due before we begin.
- Technical design. We prepare a technical design (CAD) showing the exact size, gold, stones and the spelling and placement of any engraving. This is your final chance to check every detail.
- Production. Once you approve the technical design in writing, your piece goes into production and no further changes can be made.
Personalized pieces are typically ready in about 3 weeks from approval of the technical design.
How Design With Us works
- Design deposit. Your $500 deposit begins the design process and covers your design consultation and design work. It is non-refundable and is credited in full to the price of your piece.
- Design consultation. You meet with our design team to talk through your piece. Consultations take place after the deposit is received.
- Initial design and quote. We share an initial mockup with an itemized quote. Two rounds of changes are included. Each additional round is $75, paid before we revise the design. Removing or simplifying details doesn't always lower the price, since the design work is already done.
- Payment. When you approve the initial design and quote, the remaining balance is due in full.
- Technical design. We then create the technical design (CAD) of your piece. You can still request refinements at this stage. If a refinement changes the gold or stones, the price may change, and any difference is due before production.
- Final approval and production. Your written approval of the technical design is your final approval. Your piece then goes into production and no further changes can be made.
Design With Us pieces typically take 6 to 10 weeks from deposit to delivery. That is about 2 to 4 weeks for the initial design, 1 to 2 weeks for the technical design and 3 to 4 weeks to make your piece.
Pricing and quotes
Every custom piece is priced on its own, based on the gold, the stones and the craftsmanship. Quotes are valid for 14 days. Because gold prices change, we may send an updated price if a quote expires or material costs change before production. We will never start production until you have approved the final price.
Cancellations
Design With Us. You can cancel before the technical design stage begins. The design deposit is non-refundable. Once the technical design stage has begun, the order can't be cancelled and payments are non-refundable.
Personalization. Because personalized pieces are paid in full and made to your request, payments are non-refundable once made.
No custom order can be cancelled once it is in production.
Timing and staying in touch
All timelines are estimates. If you have a date in mind, tell us when you send your request and we'll let you know if we can meet it.
Please reply to designs, quotes and approval requests within 7 business days, since delays will extend your timeline. If an order is paused for more than 60 days without a reply from you, we may update the price to current material costs or close the order. Payments already made are not refunded.
Approvals and details
All approvals, including your mockup, quote, technical design and any changes, must be confirmed in writing. Email is perfect.
Please double check sizing, chain length and the spelling of any engraving. We make every piece exactly as shown in the approved technical design, and we can't be responsible for errors in details you provided or approved. Gold and stone colors may vary slightly from mockups and renderings.
Our designs
Designs, drawings and technical designs we create remain the property of Modern Mangal. We may photograph finished pieces for our website and social media, and may create related designs in the future. If you'd like your design to stay exclusive to you, please ask before you approve the technical design and we'll confirm it in writing.
