Care and ownership

Jewelry care

Your piece is made to be worn every day. A few minutes of care now and then keeps it bright for a lifetime.

Made to stay on

Wear it every day

Every piece is 18K solid gold with settings built for daily life. Put it on and leave it on. You don't need to treat it as fragile.

  1. Keep it on

To sleep, in the shower, at work, on the plane and through your wedding.

  2. Take it off

For the pool, heavy workouts and cleaning with bleach.

  3. Put it on last

After perfume, lotion and hairspray have dried.

Every few weeks

Clean it at home

When diamonds look less bright, it is almost always skin oils and product. Ten minutes brings them back.

  1. Soak

Ten to fifteen minutes in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.

  2. Brush

Gently around the stones and along the chain with a very soft brush. A baby toothbrush works well.

  3. Rinse

In clean warm water, with the sink drain closed.

  4. Dry

Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Skip ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals.

Small habits

Keep it safe

  1. Putting it on

Every necklace closes with a lobster clasp. Bring both ends to the front, fasten, then turn the chain around.

  2. Getting dressed

Hold the pendant or tuck the chain inside your neckline before you pull anything over your head.

  3. Long hair

The clasp is where chains catch. Take a little care when you brush your hair or tie it back.

  4. A knot in the chain

Lay it flat and work the knot open slowly with two pins. Never pull. Pulling only tightens it.

  5. At home

In its pouch or box, somewhere cool and dry, away from your other pieces.

  6. Traveling

In your carry-on, never in checked luggage. Your Piece Passport is a permanent record of the piece.

For the day you first wear it

On your wedding day

  1. Getting ready

Put it on last, after hair, makeup and any sprays.

  2. Outfit changes

Have someone hold the pendant so the chain doesn't catch on embroidery, pins or dupatta fabric.

  3. The garlands

Flowers can tangle a fine chain. Ask someone close to you to keep an eye on it.

  4. Heavy fabric

Tuck it gently under a heavy dupatta or pallu at the neckline.

  5. End of the night

Wipe it with a soft cloth before you put it away.

Questions

Can I shower in my mangalsutra?

Yes. Now and then, rinse off soap residue with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth.

Can I swim in it?

Take it off for the pool. Chlorine and salt water are hard on all gold over time.

Will it tarnish?

No. 18K solid gold doesn't tarnish like plated jewelry. Over the years it softens into a gentle patina, and a jewelry cloth restores the polish.

Are small scratches normal?

Yes. Fine surface marks are normal on gold you wear every day. They are normal wear, not a defect, and they don't affect the settings.

Will my white gold change?

White gold gets its bright white from a rhodium finish, which softens with wear. We re-plate it whenever you want it bright again.

How often should I clean it?

Every few weeks if you wear it daily, or whenever the diamonds look less bright.

Can I wear it during pregnancy?

Necklaces and mangalsutras, yes. If your skin feels sensitive, give it a day or two off. Take rings off early if they start to feel snug.

Can my local jeweler resize or repair it?

Please come to us. Work by another jeweler voids the warranty, and our artisans know how each piece was built.
